OneRepublic adalah group band rock asal Amrik.Mereka terdiri dari lima personel : Ryan Tedder (lead vocals, gitar dan piano), Zach Filkins (gitar dan backing vokal). Drew Brown (gitar), Brent Kutzle (bass, cello) dan Eddie Fisher (drum). Grup mereka dibentuk di Colorado.
Ryan Tedder yang gape banget bikin lagu bilang, “yang ada di pikiran gue dulu adalah ingin bikin lagu hit dan sepertinya hal termudah yang bisa dilakukan adalah punya band rock sendiri.”
Keinginan Tedder terkabul saat akhirnya APOLOGIZE menjadi single yang sangat laris dan terkenal ke seluruh dunia dan banyak dinyanyiin penyanyi2 kelas dunia. Tapi bukan berarti tanpa kerja keras, mereka bisa berhasil seperti sekarang.
Tedder berkenalan dengan musik sejak balita, ibunya memperkenalkan ia pada alat musik piano ketika ia berumur tiga tahun, umur tujuh tahun Tedder mulai bernyanyi, “gue tipikal vokalis yang sering merasa nggak nyaman di atas panggung. Gue suka semua perhatian yang ditujuin ke diri gue, tapi sebenernya yang paling gue inginkan adalah penghargaan yang diberikan pada band, bukan pada gue secara pribadi.”
Tedder ketemu Zack Filkins (gitaris), pada tahun 2003 waktu ia balik ke Colorado Spings saat ia nyelesein senior high-nya. Filkins yang notabene temen sekelasnya dan temen di tim soccer-nya, akhirnya ia rekrut jadi anggota bandnya.
Filkins sendiri berkenalan dengan musik sejak kecil. Umur 7 hingga 15 tahun, ia belajar gitar klasik di Barcelona, Spanyol.
Setelah lulus dari senior high, Tedder dan Filkins still kept in touch, waktu ketemuan di suatu acara reuni, mereka akhirnya mutusin untuk pergi ke Los Angeles untuk ngejar impian mereka di bidang musik, disanalah mereka kemudian ketemu Drew Brown (gitar) dan Eddie Fisher (drum).

Brown yang tumbuh dan besar di Boulder, Colorado, liat konser musik untuk pertama kalinya waktu umur 10 tahun (tahun 1994), waktu itu ia diajak ayahnya ngeliat Weezer and Teenage fanclub concert. Pas udah gabung sama OneRepublic, Brown bilang ke ortunya : “gue nggak akan pulang, kirimi terus gue duit. Gue nggak ngelakuin sesuatu yang berbahaya, gue hanya tergabung dengan sebuah band. Dan gue bertanggung jawab dengan tindakan gue. Sejak itu bokap gue sepertinya gak menyesal udah ngajak gue liat konser itu.”
Cerita Fisher lain lagi, dia emang udah biasa menghentak2kan pensil ke meja tulisnya, waktu ia sedang belajar di kelas. Dia suka drum tapi nggak pernah serius mempelajarinya sampe akhirnya ia liat konser U2 di Temple Stadium, Arizona pada 1987. Waktu itu ia masih duduk di 7th grade. “Konser itu bener2 bikin gue terpacu, sehingga gue bertekad untuk mengorbankan apapun demi musik.”
OneRepublic dengan single-nya Apologize mulai dikenal lewat myspace. Single mereka terkenal lebih dulu sebelum mereka ngeluarin album. Mereka kemudian banyak nerima e-mail dari para ABG yang bilang kalo salah satu lagu mereka bikin mereka nggak jadi bunuh diri, para ABG itu umumnya merasa tertekan dengan perceraian ortu mereka.
Pertama kali Apologize muncul adalah bukan dalam versi original, melainkan versi remix. Versi originalnya malah muncul belakangan di album debut mereka yang bertitel DREAMING OUT LOUD (2007) yang diproduseri Timbalan’s Mosley Music Group (Interscope Record).
Bisa menghasilkan lagu yang bagus dengan lirik yang keren, ternyata bukan tanpa background apapun, karena ternyata Tedder dulunya emang pernah ikut sekolah the art of songwriting alias sekolah tentang gimana cara bikin lagu yang baik/bagus dan berseni. (Kira2 di Indonesia ada ga yah sekolah kayak gini, hehe).
